Recently we received notice on an article published on the UK Treasury Today website. The title "A breakthrough for e-invoicing?" zooms in on the new EU Directive e-invoicing on public procurement and the fact the actual breakthrough for e-invoicing is the feature missing from the EU framework for e-invoicing. And that is: on-boarding.

The success for the electronic invoicing differs from country to country in the Nordics and there are a couple of common reasons for that. It is no news that there has been, and still is, an increasing force in the market, driving away from business related communication on paper and instead moving towards “e”. In B2B this has been a reality for years but in B2C it’s a different story.

Atlas has significantly expanded its eInvoicing activities and credentials in the UK, Ireland, the rest of EMEA and North America over the past 12 months, surpassing many of its competitors through the provision of their intelligent eInvoicing platform, combined with industry leading delivery and customer service.
The challenge was to adapt e-invoicing to client subsidiaries in France, with the aim to “go paperless”. The programme was first of all rolled out in the Yves Rocher France chain, which represents more than 600 stores, franchised Partners and managers, and an annual volume of 140,000 invoices and 60,000 payment notices.
Electronic invoicing here implied not two, but three key players: the Yves Rocher Brand, its store Partners, and their accounting firms.
We were a bit in doubt whether we should write about a press release we just received in our e-mail inbox. Or whether we were to covertly tweet about it. It concerns the frequently asked questions about e-invoicing in public e-procurement. Similar to the explanatory notes on the 2010 EU e-invoicing directive here and here.
Though it does provide some clearance. However some things are still left unanswered. Like "what is an e-invoice?" or "What is de role of PEPPOL in this topic?". So in the near future we hope to unlock these also. But for now....here goes:
Ger Clancy, IBM Strategic Outsourcing - Business Development and Top Contributor of our LinkedIN group posted this question. He can imagine that many customers are blissfully unaware of PEPPOL, as their providers are fearful that standardisation will make these customers mobile, and want to keep their golden geese to themselves as long as possible.

On 4 June 2012, the European Commission proposed a draft Regulation on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market. The Regulation is expected to be come into force on 1st July 2014 and will be directly applicable cross the EU from that date and is an important step for the development of e-commerce, e-invoicing and e-procurement.
