Earlier this month, the European Parliament backed the EC’s proposal to modernise EU rules on e-invoicing in public procurement. But while the new e-invoicing directive calls for a new standard, it doesn’t reference the issue of on-boarding – making it easy for suppliers to prepare to exchange e-invoices. A while ago we discussed some myths and facts on PDF einvoicing. PDF is becoming the predominant form of einvoicing in the EU. However some stakeholders still state that PDf invoicing is not e-invoicing. Richard Manson from CloudTrade restarts the discussion on Peter Loughlin's site: Purchasing Insite.
Richard states: "As machine generated text PDFs represent the majority of PDF invoices flying between organisations, the question then must be asked: what is the difference between a solutionthat maps an XML or EDI document, to a solution that maps invoice data carried in a PDF into “…a format that can be entered (integrated) into the buyer’s Account Payable (AP) system? There isn’t any. So why do we still hear ‘pdf invoicing is not real e-invoicing?"

This is all based on a new study from Sage Pay. And was presented as a foot note alongside the main finding. The study from Sage Pay primarily discovered that SME businesses in the UK as a whole are currently owed more than £55 billion in unpaid or outstanding invoices. The average SME is owed £11,358, with one in five owed over £30,000.
