eBillingHub’s masterclass on legal e-billing

November 27, 2012  |  Digitalisation, Electronic Invoicing, Legal

The legal industry counts six official industry standards for the submission of electronic bills, over ten vendor-specific formats and more than 40 commercial legal spend systems. Other than that legal e-billing isn’t complicated at all… Ok, let’s turn off the sarcastic mode. Based on eBillingHub’s analysis, there is no indication that the complexity is going away any time soon. Especially when clients are moving to e-billing faster with less preparation. What to do, what to do. Well, you could start by reading these five eBillingHub best practices.

1
Even though the bill is electronic, IT should not be submitting it. All billing, including electronic billing, should be done from accounting with the support of the IT department where needed.
2
Impose discipline on your lawyers and train them in e-billing codes and practices. The more correct things are upstream, the less rework your accounting team has to do.
3
Try to have continuity within the billing process so that a certain biller always bills the same client, regardless of paper or electronic.
4
Make sure your billing manager has the bandwidth to handle rejected invoices and the authority to modify them as needed to ensure payment.
5
Use a checklist to help your clients through the setup process. When you help them, you are helping yourself.
