There has been a lot of talk about the advantages of communication and exchanging data between companies using EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) platforms. A recent study from the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), showed that a widepsread worldwide use of cloud solutions would lead to a massive 9,1 gigatonnes of CO2 emissions reduction. By 2020, this would allow savings of 1,9 billion dollars in energy costs, a figure roughly equivalent to 16% of total debt in the eurozone.
An other expert analysis by Enrique Buenaventura calculated the savings on paper for EDICOM’s clients due to the use of EDI solutions. EDICOM’s client stopped printing a total of 1.28 billion pages, which means that 56,889 fewer trees were felled.
