We have to admit it. We have shamefully “neglected” Central American Guatemala. We have paid attention to neighbouring country Mexico over and over again. But now it’s time for Guatemala to get in the limelight.
The Guatemalans haven’t been sitting on their hands when it comes to electronic invoicing. In August 2011, for example, the Guatemalan Tax Authority (GTA) passed a bill which establishes an optional electronic invoices system called “FACE”.
This post is part of a series of items on electronic invoicing in the Americas, brought to you by InvoiceWare. Please visit the profile page of InvoiceWare for an overview.
FACE it
So, what can this FACE be used for? Well, for the…
- authorization
- issuance
- transmission
- conservation
- storage
- control
of invoices, credit notes and debit cards via e-mail. Oh, and also the receipt of invoice copies, credit notes and debit cards issued on paper.
Right in time
The system doesn’t come at an inconvenient time, because by the end of 2012 the largest contributors (companies that handle more than 1 million invoices per year) are required to issue electronic invoices according to the disposition of the GTA. Through the end of March 2012 those companies with between 1.501 and 3.000 invoices per year will be incorporated. The objective of this development is to reduce business costs and facilitate compliance with tax obligations.
