Mandatory B2B e-invoicing in Portugal? The first in Europe? Allowed?

Now this is interesting. Edicom mentioned in this post that in April 2014, electronic invoicing finally became mandatory for all companies registered in Portugal and that as as from e-invoicing is mandatory for all companies as from 1 January 2015.

To me, this seems the first instance of mandatory B2B e-invoicing in Europe. Which is interesting. Probably even more interesting is the question whether this approach is allowed based on the European e-invoicing directive? I thought that the current directive didn’t provide enough room for Member States to create such compulsory B2B legislation.

Beijng expands electronic invoicing pilot

The Beijing IRS revealed that the Beijing Council and the Municipal Commission of Commerce, Local Taxation Bureau, City of Industry jointly issued notice on “further promotion of electronic invoicing and some public matters” In this notice the current e-invoicing pilot areas will be expanded to a large-scale retail, telecommunications and finance, insurance and other fields.

Only 7% of of 24% Slovenian e-invoices were in structured format

E-invoicing is most widely used in large companies (24%) followed by medium-sized companies (8%) and small companies (6%). Some 35% of large companies issued invoices in electronic form that are not suitable for automatic processing. On the other hand, 77% of companies issued only printed invoices to other companies or public institutions last year. E-invoices were received by 16% of companies.

Consultation: Should UK companies provide payment, e-invoicing details?

Now this is an interesting news release on the website of Supply Management. It states that the UK Goverment is asking for views on our proposals to make companies report on their payment performance to help create responsible payment practices. The idea behind the consultation is to know if the UK Goverment should ask companies to report on a series of measurements that will tell them about several payment performance indicators.
