Basware is the first e-invoicing service provider that has a made a connection with the new Belgian B2G e-invoicing platform, called Mercurius. And not long ago, Electrabel was the first to send an advanced structured e-invoice (compared to PDF) to the Belgian government via the Mercurius platform.
The European Commission wants that e-invoicing becomes predominant around 2020. The Belgian government endorses this goal and wants to achieve a 50% procent e-invoicing in 2020.
To realise this goal the Belgian federal government designed the B2G e-invoicing platform, called Mercurius. The Mercurius platform will be connected to all ERP software used by the various Belgian departments. Also, all e-invoices received through the Mercurius e-invoicing platform, will be automatically processed in the central Belgian bookkeeping software, called Fedcom.
To make sure that all –Belgian- companies are able to deliver e-invoices to their public customers (especially when it gets mandated), it is expected that all e-invoicing service providers will eventually have to connect to the Mercurius e-invoicing platform.
